So my good friend Brian McDonough and I decided to set up an impromptu photoshoot so he could hone his skills in shooting street style, while I get to have some original content. And might I say that I am truly happy with the outcome. The shoot didn’t really have a set theme or idea, however, I wanted to show the versatility of having a wardrobe stocked with staple pieces that can be interchanged easily; be that throughout the day or even on separate occasions. As you can notice from the first shot to the last, my woven and denim do not change. With the simple change of other articles of clothing, my entire outfit can appear different.

The first shot, I paired my foundational outfit with a navy waistcoat and navy toggle coat. I finished it off with a grey camo necktie and black wingtip boots (yes, you can wear navy with black).

The second shot, I merely switched out the navy toggle coat and replaced it with a slate grey blazer. Just by doing this, my outfit has become a bit more elevated. And to finish it off, I threw in a selvedge lined square and a small lapel pin to add some flair.

The third and last shot, I kept the woven and denim, but replaced everything else. The navy waistcoat is now replaced with a charcoal/brown tweed waistcoat. The tie switches to navy polka dot, the shoes to rust brogues, and a brown leather woven belt is added. Instead of a blazer or outerwear piece, I toned it down (and thus making it a bit more casual) by throwing on a chunky navy button down cardigan. Don’t be afraid to use chunky sweaters as outerwear pieces on those brisk, but not frigid days.

Investing in a couple staple pieces for your wardrobe not only makes changing outfits a cinch, but it also makes getting initially dressed much easier. Instead of fumbling through your closet finding the right pairings, you will already know what shirts complement which pants, which in turn can complement the right outerwear or sweater pieces.

These are just some tips that I encourage, but definitely feel free to adjust to see what fits for you.

Thanks again to Brian McDonough for the opportunity to be shot and I look forward to more shoots!
